Honesty and Fear

As I read more online and think about the sites I like, it comes down to one thing: Honesty. The voices I identify with and the writing I enjoy all have that in common. The people behind these sites are not afraid to say what is really on their minds. They are not self-censoring, on the chance that someone might be offended by their writing, thoughts, or actions. They are not trying to present one "face" to the world while secretly living a different type of life in private.

And that's a good thing.

This blog is new and I've tried to be honest, but I'll have to face it, I have been censoring myself. Writing what I think people would expect to write, not what I'd really like to say. Why have I been doing that? I'm afraid. Afraid someone might read something they don't like and think I'm weird, or strange, or I don't even know. How stupid?! It's the anonymous internet!

I don't want to go through life like that, living in my suburban neighborhood, driving my SUV, and giving all my energy to someone else's dream, because I'm afraid to do something different and stretch myself. So I'm resolving to change - might take until I'm 72, but at least I'm going for it. So prepare yourself, I can't predict what's coming, but I can say it's not for the faint-hearted.
